Kalapuya Land
We would like to deeply appreciate and acknowledge the Kalapuya people and culture, highlighting the fact that the University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, their traditional Indigenous homeland. Succeeding treaties of 1851 to 1855, the United States government dispossessed the Kalapuya people of their homeland to the Coast Reservation in Western Oregon. Now, Kalapuyan descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon. Descendants as well as other internally displaced peoples living within Oregon state lines continue to make vital contributions to our communities, the U of O, and present-day Oregon as a whole.
